Two students of National Institute of Design make kitchen for 2020, bag top prize

AHMEDABAD: Your husband is out on a tour. You have just come back from office and more than cooking a meal, you would like to unwind or just speak to him on a video call. Very soon in the future, such an amalgamation of multimedia and family bonding time will be possible and the centre point will be none other than your kitchen.

Two students of National Institute of Design (NID) have bagged the top prize in an all India student competition, ‘Kitchenext’ that asked for entries to design an Indian modular kitchen fit for 2020.

Anamika Singh and Akshit Dhiman, furniture and interior design students of NID, mentored by their faculty Prof Pravinsinh Solanki, came up with a futuristic Indian modular kitchen design that would be interactive and out of the box. In the winning concept, the tiles on the walls of a kitchen will be replaced by a glass panel similar to that on your mobile phone. A transparent touch display will be provided by an android platform, which can be accessed by an iPad also. Multiple features will be operated from the panel. That means, watching your favourite TV chef cook a dish as you follow his steps, catching up on the latest movie or even skyping with your touring husband will all be possible at the touch of a finger.
