Surge of home-improvement scams have homeowners on alert

Every spring, home-improvement scam artists materialize like the miller moths that migrate from Colorado’s plains to the mountains.

And like those dusty, annoying insects, the number of seasonal fraudsters can vary. This year, targets are most likely in the tornado and flood-ravaged Midwest and South, but scammers will likely pop up here — particularly after hailstorms or other damaging weather.
