Dallas City Council voted this week to shorten the hours when lawn maintenance, car repairs and home improvements are allowed in residential neighborhoods on weekends and holidays. The new hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., a change from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. What do you think?

Jeremy Larsen, Turtle Creek: I can imagine that this may have posed a problem for people before. It makes sense to shorten the window for mowing and car repair activity. I think most of us can remember being woken by really early lawn mowings.

Jim Hairston, University Park: [It’s] another silly law that need not be enforced. We own property freely. The government does not. Neighbors should be neighborly and mindful of noise when possible. Often instead of asking a neighbor to not mow early in the morning, we seek redress from our elected officials, who then see the [so-called] wisdom of the request. An ordinance is approved and the unintended consequences are larger.
