The Berkshires’ best pros and amateurs look for more success this year.

PITTSFIELD — Last year, with 14 spots in the Massachusetts Open field available in a qualifying tournament at the Country Club of Pittsfield, only one player with Berkshire County ties, Bob Mucha, earned his way into the field.

The Greenock Country Club head professional shot a 1-over 72 to qualify by a shot. CCOP member and playing professional Donnie Troy lost out in a playoff for one of the final spots after a round of 73.

With 11 players in a 47-player field for this year’s qualifier with county ties, there’s good reason to believe the number qualifying Tuesday at Berkshire Hills Country Club will be higher. There are 12 spots available.

The local mix includes four head club professionals, three assistant club pros, three amateurs and Troy.

Mucha’s down-the-middle game and unwavering consistency suggests he has a good chance to once again earn his way…………… continues on Berkshire Eagle
