In the kitchen: Recipe for a remodel

By the time Carla Bishop called on an interior designer to help complete the look of her kitchen, she had already chosen her flooring, backsplash and countertops.

“She knew exactly what she wanted. . . . She is a dream client,” said Grace Bradley, a certified kitchen designer.

And what Bishop wanted in her three-bedroom home on the Southside was to work within a budget.

“I work in real estate,” said Bishop. “I didn’t want to put more into the kitchen than the house is worth. It wouldn’t have made any sense.”

The challenge was securing a “team” willing to work with her plan. She dismissed a few potential “players” who tried to talk her into upgrades she wasn’t willing to consider.

When she acquired the foreclosed property six years ago, it was in desperate need of some TLC.
