A few home decor trends for 2014

I was in Dallas recently for market. I didn’t venture to the apparel and accessory showrooms, staying instead in the gift and home decor area. I’ll be back in March for the apparel market.

Wandering through home furnishings showrooms always makes me want to replace everything in my house. Most women who like to be current, fresh and stylish with their wardrobes also like to match that feeling in their homes.

I saw plenty of metallics (most of them mixed), Mercury glass, and navy and other blues, including turquoise. Angular is the new shape in lamps.  And I love industrial-chic pieces such as metal crank side tables and swivel/metal stools with subtly distressed wood tops. They’re a nice change from basic and make a statement, yet look good with transitional, more sophisticated pieces. 

Agates showed up as decor accents and coasters and Radiant Orchid (Pantone’s color of 2014) peeked through a little in pillows and other small doses. And painted furniture, big and small, still looks good.

This could be an expensive month.
